DESCRIPTION:en Widely recognized as the source of the Frankenstein myth\, the ancient Hebrew legend of the Golem provided actor/director Paul Wegener with the substance for one of the most adventurous films of the German silent cinema. With its remarkable creation sequence (a dazzling blend of religion\, sorcery and special effects) and the grand-scale destruction of its climax\, The Golem was one of the greatest achievements of the legendary UFA Studios\, and remains an undeniable landmark in the evolution of the horror film. \nfr Le Golem\, un film expressionniste allemand des années 20\, réalisé par Paul Wegener a été projeté en préouverture de la Mostra\, le Festival international du Film de Venise\, le mardi 28 août 2018 .\nLe négatif du film retrouvé parmi les riches collections de la Cinematek de Belgique a été restauré à Bologne. Nicola Mazzanti\, avant d’être le directeur de la Cinematek\, avait travaillé à la Cineteca di Bologna dans ce temple de la restauration de films. \nnl Met gestileerde studiodecors en een uitgesproken beeldtaal schilderde Wegener in zijn oeuvre de grondlaag van het Duitse expressionisme. Zijn invloed schemert door in latere meesterwerken als Murnaus Nos­feratu en Metropolis van Fritzl Lang.\nMaar van zijn kleimonsterfilms bleef alleen de laatste integraal bewaard\, Der Golem: wie er in die Welt kam uit 1920. Die oldschool huivertrip overleefde in een stuk of wat versleten projectiekopieën (en kopieën van die kopieën). Daar moest elke filmhistoricus het mee doen.
