The Mont-de-Piété is a public institution dependent on the City of Brussels and its OCMW. For more than 400 years, the core activity of the Mont-de-Piété of the city of Brussels is pawn loans. Its corollary activities are the auction and since 2018, the exhibition of works of art related to sales themes.

The Mont-de-Piété has a de facto monopoly: based on the law of 30 April 1848, we are the only organisation authorised to practice pawnbroking in Belgium.

Our status as a public institution means that you can be sure, when you use our pawnbroking services, that we are not looking for profit but are working in the general interest. Our sole ambition is to provide access to micro-credit for all. In less than 30 minutes, you have the money.

Only 5% of the paws deposited go to public auction. 95% of the loans are therefore repaid. Selling your most precious possessions is not inevitable!
