Échange avec Gilles Sebhan

11 septembre 2019 @ 18 h 00 min - 20 h 00 min

The Inner Demons of an 80’s provocative artist), suivi d’une séance de dédicaces.

19h Visite libre de l’exposition Stéphane Mandelbaum. The Inner Demons of an 80’s provocative artist, co-organisée en partenariat par le Musée Juif de Belgique et le Centre Pompidou, Paris

EN/Meeting with Gilles Sebhan, author of Mandelbaum ou le rêve d’Auschwitz, which traces the life of the incredible artist. In partnership with the Filigranes bookshop.

Presentation of the book :
In this portrait of an artist, which is both a biographical account and a pictorial analysis, Gilles Sebhan wanted to revisit this tragic journey and explore what makes Stéphane Mandelbaum an artist who is both little known and exceptional, who could be compared with Jean-Michel Basquiat as well as with some representatives of art brut. To do this, he met with the main witnesses to the artist’s life – his family, friends and mistresses – and did not seek to favour one version of the facts, but to show the impossible truth of Stéphane Mandelbaum.

Originally published in 2014, the book has now been republished with a new afterword and an update of the bibliographical references.
